The industry standards for all aspects of web technology are defined by the World Wide Web Consortium, W3C, an international body of full time staff and member organisations whose purpose is to direct the development of web technologies.

Adherence to W3C recommendations ensures that:

  • web pages display and behave consistently and predictably across compliant web browsers, and across the growing number of newer mobile devices such as PDAs and iphones
  • page content is available to users with disabilities, who may be accessing the web via a variety of assistive devices
  • page content is easily accessible to search engines spiders, allowing them to correctly index web pages so that they can be included in the all-important search engine results!
  • web pages are lightweight and quick to load, improving the visitor experience of a site
